The Better Breathing Club is a self-help support group designed to fulfill and reach the needs of people with breathing problems, their families and their friends. Sharing and caring are encouraged among all who join. A typical meeting might include speakers who will help you understand difficulties, as well as other related health topics. You will be among friends who have experienced and solved many of the problems which may be worrying you. Membership is free. Refreshments are provided. Classes are on the last Friday of the month. NO CLASSES IN JULY, NOVEMBER, OR DECEMBER.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Support Group: Educational and support group for TBI survivors and their families.

Meets the third Tuesday of the month, 6:00 to 7:30 pm.

Membership in this patient support group is free to former cardiac patients (from any hospital), their families, friends and caregivers, and the local community. Heart Beats, Inc. coordinates events throughout the year, such as

• talks by cardiac experts
• fundraising events to benefit the Joel. E. Smilow Heart Institute at Bridgeport Hospital
• patient visits on cardiac units in the hospital

Conducted with CancerCare of Connecticut, this support group is for Latin women who are in treatment (at any hospital) for any type of cancer. Discussions are primarily in Spanish. Meetings are held for eight consecutive weeks at The Family Center at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bridgeport.

For men with prostate cancer and their families. This group meets at Spring Meadows in Trumbull, on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m., and includes a light dinner. Meetings feature a physician-led discussion on a related topic. No meetings in June, July, August or December.

Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute, in cooperation with the American Cancer Society, presents “Moving Forward,” a free series of support meetings for adult cancer survivors and their loved ones. All meetings take place from 1:00-3:30 p.m., in the Admisnistrative Conference Room (ACR), first floor, Bridgeport Hospital. Refreshments are served at each meeting.  Advance registration is required.

The Greater Bridgeport Ostomy Support Group is an educational and social support group for patients who have had an ostomy and their families. The United Ostomy Chapter of Greater Bridgeport will meet at the offices of Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut, in Trumbull. 

Meetings, which include an educational session, are open to all area residents who have had or are going to have any type of ostomy operation, including a colostomy, urostomy or ileostomy.

This group meets at 2:00 p.m. on the 3rd Sunday of the month. It does not meet in the months of July and August. It will meet the second week of June due to Father's Day.

PATH is an information and support network of families who have experienced a difficult pregnancy, premature birth, the loss of a child or have a child with medical and/or developmental concerns. 

This service provides informational, social and one to one support for parents who have premature babies, as well as for young children with medical problems. Including those discharged from the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, and for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies. 

Open to patients and their families.

This educational and support group meets the first Tuesday of the month from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m.
